Adding A Better Strum - Riff Ninja Academy

Adding A Better Strum

In this lesson, we’ll build on what you’ve learned already, and add a more interesting strum pattern so this progression begins to sound more like a song.

If you need a refresher on the chords, those diagrams are down below as well.

If you’ve got questions or comments, please leave them down below. If you’re ready to take your guitar playing to the next level, checkout the Definitive Beginner’s Guide To Acoustic Guitar.

Yay I learned something new. I went from the simple strum into the more advanced strum and my granddaughter said it sounds good. Thank you much.

Yeah it goes 3-2-0 on the 5th string. He explains it better at 5:44 in the video.

Thank you for the free lesson, I am a dedicated beginner. I am disabled but my fingers work just fine. I would love to buy your dvd and book but a lot of money but am taking out a small loan. Does your dvd or book show all chords major, minor, 7s, have I missed any? Thanks

Jonathan Boettcher Reply

Hi Bryan, the book and DVDs teach all the chords you need to get started with, as a beginner, however it is not a complete guide to all the chords on guitar – that would be too much information and would overwhelm you. Instead, we focus on the ones you’ll use most, and you can add more later on, once you’re comfortable with these.

I have been beating on this guitar for some time and I’m in a rut I can’t seem to get out of. I know the basic cords and a lot of bar cords but don’t know how to put them togeather,if you know what I mean.like how to pick and strum into a good sounding song or take off on my own into a solo.some lessons in that direction sure would help.THX you guys are the greatest.

Hey Jack, putting it all together is the point of the Beginner course – I encourage you to give it a try, I think you’ll find you begin to progress quite quickly!!
